Police: No charges against Moran’s son from undercover video

Arlington County police will not file charges against the son of Virginia Rep. James P. Moran Jr. after an incident last fall during which he was caught on camera appearing to give a man advice on how to commit voter fraud.

Police announced Thursday they won’t pursue charges against Patrick Moran, son of the Virginia Democrat. Mr. Moran was working as field director for his father’s re-election campaign last October when he was recorded apparently giving pointers to a person posing as an activist who had approached him with a plan to illegally cast ballots for 100 people.

The video was circulated online by Project Veritas, a group led by conservative activist James O’Keefe. Mr. Moran resigned from his father’s campaign days later.

Arlington County Police Department officials said in a statement that they have closed their investigation after receiving full cooperation from the Morans but no assistance from the parties responsible for filming the incident.

Patrick Moran, 23, was arrested on separate charges in December after being accused of slamming his girlfriend’s head against a metal trash can outside a Northwest D.C. nightclub. He pleaded guilty that month to a charge of misdemeanor simple assault and was sentenced to one year of probation and a suspended 90-day jail term.
