The Obama administration blamed sequester cuts for having to cancel a traditional Marine Corps Band performance Sunday at the St. Patricks Day parade in Rocky Point, N.Y.
The Quantico Marine Corps Band has performed in the parade 11 times since 1991.
Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, issued a statement last week saying that he had pushed the Department of Defense to reconsider canceling the band's performance and that it was only due to his persuasion that the show would go on. The New York Post later reported that the show was canceled.
"We're political pawns," Joe Cognitore, commander of the Rocky Point VFW Post, which co-sponsored the parade, told the New York Post.
