ND to release primary election, voting law survey

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger is slated to release a voters’ survey done after the June 10 primary election.

Jaeger says the survey to be released Thursday includes information about voters and the impact of changes to the state’s voter identification laws.

The American Civil Liberties Union and a Fargo-based-nonprofit want North Dakota’s voter identification laws expanded to allow more forms of ID.

The ACLU and the Freedom Resource Center for Independent Living say North Dakota’s current law could disenfranchise disabled and Native American voters.

North Dakota requires voters to bring to the polls ID showing their current address and birthdate. The acceptable forms of ID are a North Dakota driver’s license, a non-driver’s license, a tribal ID, student ID and a long-term care ID certificate.
