MARTINSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Sun Air Express will start offering daily flights from Altoona-Blair County to Pittsburgh International Airport starting Oct. 1.

The U.S. Department of Transportation picked the Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based airline to provide the service under the federally subsidized Essential Air Service program. The program is designed to provide connecting service from secondary airports to larger hubs.

The Altoona Mirror (http://bit.ly/1tqG32P ) reports Sun Air will offer four flights on weekdays and three each on Saturday and Sunday.

The government has also ordered Silver Airways, another Fort Lauderdale carrier which currently provides the Pittsburgh flights, to continue providing service from Altoona-Blair County to Washington-Dulles airport through Sept. 30.

Silver Airways will also offer flights to Dulles from John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport and the Dubois Regional Airport in Jefferson County.
