WAIANAE, Hawaii (AP) - Police arrested a 39-year-old man Monday in connection with a stabbing in Maili in which a 42-year-old man was critically wounded and later died, The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports (http://bit.ly/1ktr8n6 .)

Emergency responders say the victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition after the stabbing early Sunday. He died Monday afternoon, Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman Michelle Yu told the Star-Advertiser.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, the Star-Advertiser reported.

Nearby resident Marvin Bothelho tells KHON-TV (http://ow.ly/ubJFE ) he heard someone screaming for help at about 4:30 a.m. He says he and his friends rushed over to the bloodied man, who had been stabbed in the face.

Botelho says he recognized the man as someone he went to Waianae High School with.

Park workers say some homeless people sleep in the area and in the park’s bathrooms.
