PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A 19-year-old Rhode Island man who acknowledged painting pink-and-white messages about loneliness on Providence buildings has agreed to pay for the cleanup.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1fPvd4B) Devin Costa of Cumberland pleaded no contest last week to four counts of vandalism and agreed to pay $12,390 in restitution.

The graffiti, reading “Lonely as I’ve ever been,” ’’Lonely see me now,” or simply “lonely” and “alone” began appearing earlier this year high on buildings including the old South Street power station and the Biltmore Garage.

Costa was arrested after police released a surveillance image of the tagger in April. Police Lt. Timothy O’Hara told the Journal then that one business owner estimated it would cost about $4,000 to clean up the graffiti on his property.

Costa declined, through his attorney, to say what motivated his messages.
