WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (AP) - Fire officials say nearly three dozen students and staff members at a Long Island high school have been treated at a hospital after being overcome by fumes of an unknown origin.
The incident occurred around noon Tuesday at West Babylon Senior High School.
West Babylon Fire Chief Peter Mcardle says the school was evacuated and emergency crews were called after people reported having difficulty breathing. He says some of the patients complained of burning in the back of their throats.
Mcardle says most of those affected felt their symptoms in a hallway.
A statement posted on the school’s website says students were dismissed early.
