FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A children’s librarian at the Fargo Public Library has been chosen to serve on the national committee that selects the prestigious Newbery Award in 2016.
Amber Emery has served as the Children’s Services Coordinator at the library since 2009.
She will serve on the 2016 John Newbery Award Committee where she will help select the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children published in 2015. The award will be announced in early 2016.
The library says Emery has developed early literacy opportunities for children through activities and story times in her tenure.
The Newbery award was named in honor of John Newbery, a book seller in the 18th century. The award was approved by the American Library Association in 1922 and is perhaps the most renowned of children’s literature awards.
