NEW YORK (AP) - The Rev. Al Sharpton says his organization is coordinating a national day of prayer after Wednesday night’s deadly shooting at a South Carolina church.
At a news conference in Manhattan on Thursday, Sharpton said the day of prayer would comfort the families of the nine people killed in Charleston.
A date has not been set.
Sharpton says nobody is safe if people can’t go to church for Bible study.
He also believes more needs to be done to address racial tension in America.
Sharpton initially planned to announce a reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. But a suspect was apprehended shortly before his appearance Thursday morning.
