ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A recent survey shows majority support among registered voters for New York’s gun control law enacted two years ago.
The law banned large-capacity magazines and sales of some popular semi-automatic weapons like the AR-15 rifle. It also required owners of those guns now redefined as assault weapons to register them.
It called for mental health clinicians to report to authorities about potentially dangerous patients whose gun licenses would be reviewed and possibly suspended.
The Siena College survey May 18 through 21 of 695 registered voters shows 62 percent support “what some have called the toughest gun control law in the country,” while 33 percent oppose it.
The survey shows 77 percent support among Democrats and 57 percent opposition among Republicans.
It claims a margin of error of 3.7 percentage points.
