NAGS HEAD, N.C. (AP) - Tourism officials hope events at a new outdoor venue will attract people to the Outer Banks in the off-season.

The Virginian Pilot of Norfolk, Virginia, reported (https://bit.ly/1HCj89Q) Soundside was scheduled to open Sunday with the OBX Brewfest. Organizers are expecting 2,000 people to attend the event, where more than 120 beers from at least 150 breweries will be offered.

Art festivals are planned for late summer and fall. The Outer Banks Seafood Festival drew 9,000 to the same undeveloped tract last year and is scheduled again in October.

Soundside’s $2.9 million first phase included building the entrance and driveways, laying sod, installing walkways and hauling in more than 1,250 dump truck loads of sand. The property sits along Croatan Highway in Nags Head and reaches back to the Roanoke Sound.
