BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture has granted nearly $125,000 to businesses in North Dakota to develop new agricultural products and markets for existing goods.
ND Golden Growers Cooperative, Aspen Aquaponics and Meadowlark Granary are getting the funds through the agency’s Value-Added Producer Grant program.
U.S. Sen. John Hoeven says the funds will help the businesses find new uses and markets for their crop, which in return, will help grow and diversify the state’s economy.
ND Golden Growers Cooperative received $75,000 to study products derived from corn grain, including food-grade gluten-free flour and higher value animal feed products.
More than $25,000 is expected to support Aspen Aquaponics’s sale of retail and wholesale packaged fresh vegetables and herbs.
Meanwhile, Meadowlark Granary will use $24,000 to expand its baking and milling capacity.
