RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Immigrants living in North Carolina and their advocates want Gov. Pat McCrory to withdraw from a lawsuit challenging President Barack Obama’s executive actions designed to protect millions of people in the country illegally from deportation.
Several groups organized a march and rally Friday afternoon in downtown Raleigh to draw attention to their demand. They are expected to end up in front of the Executive Mansion.
A federal appeals court panel last week upheld a lower court decision blocking the Obama administration’s plan.
Earlier this month more than 100 supporters of Obama’s immigration decisions walked and biked from Charlotte to Raleigh to highlight the issue.
Six people were arrested three weeks ago outside the Executive Mansion in protest of McCrory signing legislation addressing immigration identification and sanctuary cities.
