PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) - Alan Morin shot a 6-under 66 on Thursday to take a one-stroke lead in the PGA Assistant Championship at PGA Golf Club.
Morin, a PGA assistant professional at The Falls Country Club in Lake Worth, Florida, has six birdies in a bogey-free round on the Wanamaker Course.
Three-time winner Frank Bensel of Purchase, New York; was tied for second with Tommy Gibson of Homestead, Florida; Paul Selvaggio of Valhalla, New York; and Mick Smith of Summit, Wisconsin. Bensel won at PGA Golf Club in 2010, ’11, ’13.
Karen Paolozzi of Atlanta, the only woman in the field, had a 69.
Defending champion Grant Sturgeon of Port Chester, New York, opened with a 70.
