BOSTON (AP) - An advocacy group has filed a civil rights complaint on behalf of a black teenager who claims he was racially profiled by a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority inspector.
The Boston Globe reports (https://bit.ly/2bfGix2 ) the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Economic Justice filed the complaint with the state Department of Transportation.
The complaint states that the MBTA inspector improperly removed the group’s client, a 16-year-old boy, from a Red Line train last month after racially profiling him as part of an allegedly rowdy group of African-American children.
Despite being told by witnesses and the children themselves that the boy wasn’t part of the group, the filing states that the inspector only allowed the boy to re-board after a white female passenger vouched for him.
MBTA officials declined to comment.
