EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - “Star Trek” star George Takei (tuh-KAY’) is bringing his wit and social commentary to Indiana.

The TV and stage star is scheduled to speak Sept. 27 in Evansville as part of a diversity lecture series. Takei’s childhood experience in a World War II internment camp inspired a Broadway musical. He also has been an outspoken advocate of gay rights, and his witty posts on social media have attracted many followers.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports (https://bit.ly/2bm0cJA ) that Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke announced Takei’s visit Thursday. The mayor commended the Evansville Diversity Lecture Series for bringing thought-provoking speakers to the community.

Last month, Takei released a four-minute video in Spanish with English subtitles in which he criticized GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s positions on immigration.
