ORONO, Maine (AP) - The University of Maine’s men’s basketball team is using a game at Duke University as an opportunity to show support for North Carolina’s LGBT community.
The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2gT3mDf) the team will wear T-shirts with a rainbow logo designed by the American East Conference during Saturday’s game. The team is aiming to show solidarity with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people following the passage of a North Carolina law that limits anti-discrimination protections and requires transgender people to use the public bathroom corresponding with their birth gender.
The players also planned to meet Friday with a Duke student group advocating for social justice and to meet with a University of Maine’s office of LGBTQ Services upon returning.
