HILLSBORO, Ohio (AP) - A judge has dismissed as moot a civil complaint alleging misconduct by a southwestern Ohio mayor who’s also a veteran standup comedian.
The complaint alleged misconduct by Mayor Drew Hastings involving a letter submitted for a $500 refund of a vacant building fee.
The Times-Gazette of Hillsboro has reported that a separate criminal probe also involves allegations that Hastings had building materials and carpet from his private properties dumped into city trash bins.
The paper says (https://bit.ly/1K4RHaR) Highland County Judge Kevin Greer dismissed the civil complaint Friday because Hastings has begun his second term and the allegations referred to his first term. Greer cited an Ohio Supreme Court decision involving a former Cleveland mayor.
Hastings has called the refund allegation “ludicrous” and says he will dispose of the trash issue.
