TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Tuscaloosa city leaders want an extra week to consider an estimated $8 million retail and apartment building for downtown Tuscaloosa.
The Tuscaloosa News reports (https://bit.ly/1MT5WRI) that Tuesday’s city council meeting was the first time some council members said they had heard of the proposed development.
Proposed by developer Phil Weaver, the six-story, 50,718-square-foot development would have 48 bedrooms on the top five floors and retail space in the ground floor. It would be located on University Boulevard in northeast Tuscaloosa.
Much of the council’s discussion focused on the appearance of the structure. Councilman Eddie Pugh said he’s not against the project, but he isn’t sure if he supports a six-story project.
The council will meet again at 6 p.m. next Tuesday.
