SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a suspended school basketball coach has been arrested after he left a meeting upset, bought a gun and loaded the weapon during a traffic stop.
Sandy Springs police tell news outlets that school officials at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School confronted Terry Kelly on Wednesday morning regarding inappropriate texts and emails former students had received.
Kelly was placed on administrative leave during the meeting and officials say a private investigator they had hired then witnessed Kelly buy a gun and ammunition at a sporting goods store. Police officers pulled Kelly over as he was driving in the direction of the school. The school was placed on lockdown.
Kelly has been charged with reckless conduct and obstruction in connection to the incident. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.
