CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Authorities say a former federal prison inmate in New Hampshire has pleaded guilty to having a synthetic cannabinoid in the prison.
NH1 reports (https://bit.ly/2ksqdXE ) 36-year-old Jason Ponder pleaded guilty in federal court on Thursday to possessing contraband in the Federal Correctional Institution in Berlin.
Authorities say Ponder’s girlfriend visited him in March 2016. Security cameras recorded the woman passing him three small white packages.
Lab tests showed the substance was a synthetic cannabinoid known as AB-Fubinaca.
Authorities say synthetic cannabinoids are green leafy materials that have been sprayed with chemicals. They’re often promoted as incense or potpourri, but can be smoked for a high.
Ponder’s sentencing is scheduled for early May. He has agreed to serve an eight-month sentence once his current term is finished.
