With a banquet-size dining room and an outdoor pool, this Potomac home is an entertainer’s delight. Guests enter via a private road, ending in a circular driveway with a parking pad for several cars.

The home’s white brick exterior and multifaceted hip roof stand out against the surrounding tall trees. Lush landscaping and a stream in the back yard provide additional natural features.

This residence was built in 1986 in the Piney Glen Farms community and is available for $2.2 million. In 1995, the owners added a three-story, window-filled addition, resembling a tower, in the back. The lower level is home to a large, self-contained apartment for guests, in-laws or teens.

Through the arched double-door entrance, the foyer offers a striking first glance at the interior.

White marble floors, elegant wall sconces and a chandelier create a formal atmosphere, and architectural detailing, such as plaster moldings and rich wood built-ins, provide sophisticated additions.

Doors at the edges of the entrance lead to a marble powder room on one side and, on the other, a walk-in closet to hang the coats of visiting family and friends. Arched entryways are prominent throughout the main level and are visible from the foyer, which separates two wide-arched openings leading into the library and formal living room.

The library has wood-paneled walls and hardwood flooring, with custom cabinetry, shelving and recessed lights. Tall windows allow sunlight in and offer a view of the front grounds.

The home has four fireplaces — two on the main level, one on the second floor and one on the lower level.

The fireplace in the living room is wood-burning with a marble mantle. Extensive plaster crown molding, chair-rail molding and picture-frame molding decorate the walls.

Another arched entrance from the living room graciously flows into the large-scale formal dining room, which is spacious enough to accommodate a host of guests.

The homeowner is a chef, so the centrally located kitchen is clearly the heart of the home. The kitchen was recently renovated and boasts cherry cabinetry with coordinating appliance doors for the dishwasher and refrigerator, along with cherry crown molding and an open butler’s pantry.

A large granite center island was creatively placed between two tall columns and has an arched design above it with recessed lights. This island has a six-burner gas cooktop. Surrounding stools will seat six persons. The homeowner said the family enjoyed preparing meals for the grandchildren at the island.

In addition to seating at the island, the breakfast room can fit a large table.

White ceramic tile covers the kitchen floor, and a decorative tile border outlines the breakfast-room floor. Bay windows here let in the sunlight, and doors open onto the deck. This breakfast area was part of the three-story expansion.

The deck has solid mahogany flooring with white railings. The deck overlooks a kidney-shaped pool complex that includes a hot tub and waterfall. Attractive, detailed stonework with multicolored paths and walkways and built-in lighting makes the back yard feel like a resort.

White pavers were installed to provide a cooler walking surface for barefoot bathers. The pool area also features a built-in grill.

Another set of doors on the deck allows access directly into the family room, where hardwood floors with matching built-in wood bookshelves and crown molding are prominently featured.

A gas-fired stone fireplace with a carved-wood mantle is the centerpiece of the family room.

As an extension of the family room, another arched ceiling divides the family room from the party-size wet bar with granite counters and mirrored walls. The bar comes complete with a small refrigerator and dishwasher.

Double doors open into the master suite with hardwood floors, recessed lights and a marble surround fireplace. There’s an adjoining sitting room surrounded by walls of windows, a vaulted ceiling and a door that leads to the balcony overlooking the backyard stream.

The master bathroom has a step-up tub, his-and-hers sinks and mirrored walls and ceilings. The step-down wardrobe room has shelving, drawers and a mirrored dressing area.

Three more bedrooms are found down the hall, including the princess suite, which has its own bath. The other two bedrooms share access through two separate doors to another full bathroom.

Berber-carpeted steps lead to the finished lower level, with tall above-ground windows and high ceilings to give it more of a main-level feel. Features include a recreation room with a dance floor, built-in stage, fireplace and walk-out exit to the patio and pool.

The basement also houses a remarkable one-bedroom apartment, which comes with its own galley-style kitchen with a double oven, living room, dining room, laundry room, bedroom and bath.

In the back of the home, there is a workshop with its own entrance, which the owners say can easily be converted into a second two-car garage.
