Jean Leffler, 75, homemaker

Jean Pawlicki Leffler, a homemaker, died of chronic obstructed pulmonary disease on March 20 at her home in Alexandria. She was 75.

Born in Shamokin, Pa., Mrs. Leffler was the wife of retired Lt. Col. John J. Leffler, a 1951 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

She accompanied her husband on domestic and international tours of duty, beginning with their marriage in Sendai, Japan, in 1952. The family remained in the Mount Vernon area of Northern Virginia after his retirement in 1970.

Mrs. Leffler was the mother of six children, all of whom entered the helping professions as a result of her husband’s lengthy recovery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center from serious injuries received during the Vietnam War.

She was active in several social, church and charitable activities, particularly those relating to the Knights of Columbus, Mount Vernon Council 5998 of Northern Virginia.

She and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December 2002 by taking their six children and their spouses and 17 grandchildren on a cruise to the Cayman Islands, Playa del Sol and Cozumel, Mexico.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Leffler is survived by two sons, John Leffler Jr. of Austin, Texas, and James Leffler of Hanover, Va.; four daughters, Janet Seekins of Marietta, Ga., Judy Gardner of Casper, Wyo., Jill Lyons of Charlotte, Vt., and Jeanne Leffler-Spencer of Richmond; and 17 grandchildren.

A private interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery on a later date.
