Last night at AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami:

15 Field goals made by the Wizards’ big three of Antawn Jamison, Gilbert Arenas and Larry Hughes. They combined to take 57 shots.

Shaquille O’Neal was too much for the Wizards. O’Neal notched his first 40-point game for the Heat.

Of course, Shaquille O’Neal had to delve into the continuing Los Angeles soap opera that now features a Los Angeles Times story that says Karl Malone hit on Kobe Bryant’s wife.

“I’m very surprised how it came out, but I’ve never seen anything like that before. I thought him and Karl were best friends. Karl was the liaison between me and that guy. I was under the impression they were closer than that.”

Bryant, who was at the core of the breakup of the Lakers team that won three championships, accused Malone of trying to hit on his wife, Vanessa, at a game. Bryant, whom O’Neal will refer to these days only as “that guy,” clearly has a healthy disdain for Bryant. But he is baffled by Bryant’s dislike for Malone, who acted like Bryant’s mentor while the younger player faced a rape charge.

“He’s a legend,” O’Neal said of Malone. “If you don’t like Karl Malone there’s something wrong with you.”
