Blogdom is being shaken by a mini-scandal at the Los Angeles Times (where I used to contribute a handheld computing column and other tech items) over their columnist and blogger Michael Hiltzik:

Notice from the Editors

The Times has suspended Michael Hiltzik’s Golden State blog on latimes.com. Hiltzik admitted Thursday that he posted items on the paper’s website, and on other websites, under names other than his own. That is a violation of The Times ethics guidelines, which requires editors and reporters to identify themselves when dealing with the public. The policy applies to both the print and online editions of the newspaper. The Times is investigating the postings.

The integrity of blogging — or journalism — is a precious thing. That’s why comments posted on this blog are monitored, and why someone sees what I write here before it goes up. With the exception of occasional edits, every word you see connected to this writer’s name is, I hope, mine.
