Three D.C. United players learned yesterday they made the “First XI” for the MLS All-Star team that will play Chelsea FC at the Chicago Fire’s Toyota Park on Aug. 5.

Goalkeeper Troy Perkins, forward Jaime Moreno and midfielder Christian Gomez were named to the 11-man lineup as supposed starters. But D.C. United coach Peter Nowak — who by leading his team to the league’s best record earned the right to coach the All-Star team — will decide the final lineup. United is the only team with three players on the First XI.

Perkins, who leads the league with seven shutouts, will make his first All-Star appearance. Perkins has played every minute of this season’s 18 games and owns a league-best goals-against-average of .78.

Moreno will make his sixth All-Star appearance. His team-high nine goals rank second in MLS.

Gomez, who has six goals and six assists, will make his second appearance.
