MANCHESTER, England — D.C. United star Freddy Adu began a two-week trial with English Premier League club Manchester United today.

The 17-year-old Adu took part in training with players from the club’s youth academy. Manchester United’s senior squad left today for Glasgow, Scotland, for its Champions League match against Celtic tomorrow.

Because Adu doesn’t have a British work permit, he is not able to play in a competitive match.

Under FIFA transfer rules, Adu is not allowed to change clubs until he turns 18 on June 2, 2007.

Chelsea also has expressed interest in signing Adu at some point.
