How did you get started in real estate? I started in real estate after 10 years in medical research in the Navy, National Institutes of Health, University of Rochester Medical School, Temple University Health Science Center, then an additional 17 years in scientific sales. I decided to go into real estate sales because I enjoy working with people.

How long with the current company? Since March 1, 1993

Licenses and designations: Maryland real estate sales; graduate Realtor institute; certified residential specialist

Associations: National Association of Realtors; Maryland Association of Realtors; five-year board of directors’ member and past president, Howard County Association of Realtors (HCAR); charter member, Howard County Professionals; former board member, Columbia Business Exchange.

Awards: HCAR Realtor of the year, 2002; HCAR community service award, 2004; life member, past president, Howard County Real Estate Million Dollar Club

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: I feel that my greatest accomplishments in the past 12 months, in addition to my family life, have been as a board member and president of the Rotary Club of Columbia-Patuxent and as a board member of the Columbia Festival of the Arts.

What is your area of specialty? Residential and commercial real estate

Highest-priced home sold: Several million dollars.

Most memorable house: My most memorable house sales have been with first-time buyers. Helping people obtain their first home is emotionally rewarding.

Worst experience: The family of an elderly professional man who had recently died asked me to dispose of all of his personal property, including clothing, books, professional effects and furniture; then have the property renovated and placed on the market. This was a daunting task, taking several months. By the time the condo was sold, I felt like I had formed a bond with his ghost.

Age: 68

Family: Wife, Marcia; five children; seven grandchildren

Education: Attended University of Rochester, Temple University and Navy technical schools in both undergraduate and graduate courses in natural science.

Community service: Rotary Club of Columbia-Patuxent, president, 2005-2006; Columbia Festival of the Arts, board of directors; Leadership Howard County, class of 2002

Outside interests: Drawing, painting, family portraiture; gardening; nature; history; reading

Last book read: “John Adams,” by David McCullough

Last movie seen: “Letters From Iwo Jima”

What kind of cars do you drive? I drive a 1993 Lexus LS 400; BMW Z4 roadster.

What is your personal dream home? A place on the Chesapeake Bay with a boat dock for a small sailboat.
