INJURY UPDATE

Jason Simontacchi made what is expected to be his final rehab start for Class AAA Columbus yesterday. Though the right-hander was roughed up a bit, allowing six runs on nine hits in 52/3 innings against Rochester, he said his strained groin didn’t feel as weak as it had in previous outings.

Barring any complications, it appears he will be promoted to Washington in time to start Tuesday’s game at Milwaukee.

“I think that was it,” manager Manny Acta said. “He might make one more start, but I think he’s ready.”

Acta also said both shortstop Cristian Guzman (hamstring) and center fielder Nook Logan (foot) should be activated Monday in time for the start of the series against the Brewers.

OVERHEARD

“It’s over. I can’t deal with what I never had over here. I’ve got to deal with what I have.”
