How did you get started in real estate? Frustrated and bored in my career, a friend suggested that I talk to a friend of his who owned a real estate company. I had never thought of becoming a Realtor, but after our initial meeting, I enrolled in real estate classes. Once I completed the classes and passed the exam I went back to this broker and he hired me.

Most memorable house: Just a few years in the business, a friend of mine in Texas called and said that a friend of his had accepted a position in Washington and asked if I would help him find a place to live. Of course, I said yes. He purchased a beautiful house near Logan Circle, and it was my highest single transaction price to date. He still lives there, we became good friends, and his house is as beautiful as it was when he purchased and worth considerably more.

Worst experience: This is by far the most challenging experience I’ve had: The market was unlike what we’ve experienced that last few years and deals were fewer and farther between and required more effort. A client of mine purchased a town house, and during the inspection it was discovered that the house was sinking. The seller had moved out of state and the purchaser desperately wanted this house. A structural engineer was hired, and the house was jacked up and stabilized by drilling a series of long metal rods into the bedrock several feet below the surface. The cosmetic corrections were made to the house and we went to settlement on time. As I remember, it was a nightmare.
