The Rover would like to commend Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia for both doing something that should have been done long ago. Els dumped noted swing butcher David Leadbetter recently to begin working with Butch Harmon. The Las Vegas based guru who also works with Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott and was Tiger’s teacher at his pinnacle (2000-2001) is likely to steer Els back to a feel-based move and away from Leadbetter’s more mechanical approach. In similar fashion, Garcia finally has enlisted the help of short game specialist Stan Utley after a decade of putting-based, near-miss major woes.
The Rover wants to apologize in advance for this week’s postcards, which undoubtedly will suffer from some of his recent lifestyle changes. While his liver is no doubt delighted by these decisions, the Rover’s often colorful late-night experiences, and thus some of his postcard fodder, are likely to be somewhat diminished.
On a positive note, the Rover is back in the hopper for the media lottery to play Augusta National on Monday after sitting out the mandatory seven years since his last tangle with Augusta National (2000). Please cross your collective fingers on his behalf.
