Active adult communities, restricted to households with members age 55 and older, are designed to appeal to the soon-to-retire baby boomer generation.
A recent National Association of Home Builders’ article, published in 50+ Housing Magazine (www.nahb.org), revealed that the average age of active adult buyers has dropped to 61, down from 67 only 10 years ago. NAHB says that these buyers place a high priority on lifestyle amenities and low-maintenance homes and that they also look for a community close to where they already live.
Anne Arundel County has multiple new active adult communities under development, often with an array of recreational amenities. Condominiums and single-family homes are being built, each with a first-floor master suite or a one-level floor plan, another important feature for active adult buyers.
