AUGUSTA, GA. — The Rover is no longer picking Tiger Woods to win this week, but don’t make the mistake of thinking he’s not in easy striking distance. Forget the fact that he’s seven shots behind Trevor Immelman; the far more meaningful number is that he’s only trailing 12 players and is only four shots behind de facto leader Phil Mickelson. Immelman is one of the game’s nicest guys and a great story, but he’s a notoriously suspect putter (witness the broomstick) — a death sentence at Augusta National. And Bobby Jones and the other golf gods will command the grounds to open up and swallow all of Augusta before they allow something called a Brandt Snedeker to slip into a green jacket. …
Back in the media lottery to play the course on Monday for the first time since 2000, the Rover’s raffle ticket is No. 308. Any metaphysical assistance on this front that doesn’t involve human sacrifice is appreciated.
