Wedding bells
It appears that Jay-Z and Beyonce finally have tied the knot.
There was a swirl of activity Friday at the rap mogul’s Tribeca apartment. A swarm of media outside the building was in a state of frenzy as delivery trucks dropped off silver candelabra and white flowers. A white tent was set up on the roof, and stars including Beyonce’s former Destiny’s Child band mates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, were spotted arriving.
The Web sites of celebrity magazines People and Us Weekly reported that the couple married and threw a lavish but small party Friday, citing unnamed sources who are friends with the pair.
The couple, who apparently have been dating for six years, have never publicly acknowledged they are together. Beyonce, 26, and Jay-Z, 38, whose real name is Shawn Carter, have collaborated on the songs “03 Bonnie and Clyde” and “Crazy in Love.”
Paternity questions
A woman who claims Michael Jordan fathered her child wants the former NBA star to submit to a third paternity test.
Lisa Miceli also is asking a judge to lift a temporary restraining order imposed after Mr. Jordan filed a harassment suit against her.
Miss Miceli, 35, of Meadville, Pa., claims Mr. Jordan fathered her 4-year-old son, but Mr. Jordan’s lawsuit says a pair of 2005 paternity tests rule him out as the boy’s father.
Mr. Jordan’s attorney, Frederick J. Sperling, participated in a hearing by phone Friday, denying Miss Miceli’s claims that the restraining order prevents her from negotiating a child-support settlement with Mr. Jordan.
“There is not going to be a settlement,” Mr. Sperling told Crawford County Judge Gordon Miller. “Mr. Jordan is not the father of her child, and we’re not going to engage in any discussions on that.”
Judge Miller did not immediately rule on Miss Miceli’s request for a third test.
Suit settled
Nicolas Cage has settled a libel suit in a London court against Kathleen Turner, who falsely claimed in her autobiography that he had been arrested twice for drunken driving and had stolen a dog.
Neither of the stars attended the hearing at Britain’s High Court, where Miss Turner’s lawyer, book publisher Headline Publishing Group and the Daily Mail, which ran an excerpt, all apologized to Mr. Cage and offered to make a substantial donation to a charity of his choice.
Mr. Cage’s lawyer, Simon Smith, dismissed as “utter falsity” a section of Miss Turner’s book “Send Yourself Roses,” describing the actors’ experience working together on the set of the movie “Peggy Sue Got Married” in 1986.
In the passage, Miss Turner, 53, said her co-star, 44, was “arrested twice for drunk-driving and, I think, for stealing a dog. He’d come across a Chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket.”
Owing to a mistake on Miss Turner’s part and despite the other defendants’ publishing in good faith, the claims were defamatory and false, Mr. Smith said. All three agreed to pay Mr. Cage’s legal costs and make the charitable donation.
