TRIVIA
Who are the only two Masters winners since 1993 who have only one major victory on their resumes?
TWT FIVE - Most Memorable Masters
1. 1986: Jack Nicklaus emerges from hibernation at 46, posting a closing-nine 30 to clip Greg Norman, Tom Kite and Seve Ballesteros in what is universally revered as the greatest major finish in history.
2. 1996: Greg Norman has the defining moment in a career littered with major hiccups, blowing a six-stroke Saturday-night lead in 11 holes to Nick Faldo. The Shark’s surreal slow-motion swoon resulted in a final-round 78, leaving him five strokes back after Faldo’s Sunday-best 67.
3. 1997: In his first major start as a professional, Tiger Woods stuns the golf world with his combination of power and touch at age 21, playing his final 63 holes in 22 under to set a new tournament scoring record (270, 18 under) and forever change the face of golf.
4. 2004: Snapping an 0-for-46 streak in the majors, beloved Phil Mickelson ends his career as a major bridesmaid by besting Ernie Els in perhaps the greatest back-nine duel in the history of the event. Lefty birdies five of the last seven holes, culminating with an 18-foot salvo on the last hole to edge Els and his closing 67.
5. 1995: Just a week after burying his longtime friend, instructor and mentor, Harvey Penick, Ben Crenshaw enjoys an uber-emotional renaissance, nipping Davis Love III by a stroke with birdies at Nos. 16 and 17 for a 274 total and his second green jacket.
TRIVIA ANSWER
Green Jackets are normally reserved for the game’s ultimate echelon of players, but Canada’s Mike Weir (2003) and Iowa’s Zach Johnson (2007) both broke the Masters mold in recent years, collecting their first and only major titles at Augusta National.
