A welcoming front porch is one of the highlights of the enchanting 1916 Dutch Colonial at 17 Oxford St. in Chevy Chase Village. The historic home of pale yellow shake siding and stucco sits amid other historic and uniquely designed homes with manicured lawns close to a host of amenities.

It is in a community where residents can drop off a house key with the local police department to do house checks when they are away, keep up with community issues through a regular neighborhood newsletter also used to find baby-sitting or pet care, and take advantage of a Village Hall that offers toddler groups and exercise classes.

The home is on the market for $2,875,000, and it has been meticulously restored, renovated and expanded by Chryssa Wolfe of Hanlon Design/Build. Situated on a small hill, the home has a side driveway and a slate walkway that leads to the front porch. Six columns highlight the front porch, which stretches almost the width of the home and boasts a sunny southern exposure.

Six bedrooms, four full baths and two half baths are spread throughout the three finished levels. The main-level center hall separates the two sides of the home with the dining room and kitchen on one side and the living and family rooms on the other.

Beyond the open-entry foyer, the hall narrows as you walk to the back of the home. This hall resembles an art gallery, as it’s the perfect space for the owners to display their family portraits. Hardwood floors and recessed lighting can be found throughout most of the main level and second-floor bedrooms.

The formal living and dining rooms are expansive, with both measuring 14 by 24 feet. The rooms are across the hall from one another and are ideal spaces for grand-scale entertaining.

The columned living room is home to a wood-burning marble fireplace and is flanked by French doors that open into the adjoining sunroom. This sunroom has walls of windows and custom mosaic tile flooring.

Many of the rooms in the home are tastefully painted in warm pastels that make the white moldings and baseboards stand out. While the living room and sunroom are a cheery yellow, the dining room walls are peach.

The dining room features an exquisite chandelier with a ceiling medallion, built-in cabinetry with glass doors, and three large windows. A doorway that can be closed when entertaining leads directly into the kitchen.

A three-story addition on the back of the home allowed the owners to include a spacious custom kitchen and family room in the floor plan. A side-entry foyer separates the living room from the family room.

The gourmet kitchen offers many unique features, including the custom, hand-painted hardwood flooring. While the granite counters and many of the wood cabinets are a light neutral color, a floor-to-ceiling wall of red cabinetry adds a splash of color. On this wall are cabinets with glass doors, open shelving and a built-in Dacor stainless steel double oven and Sub-Zero refrigerator.

On the opposite wall are a row of cabinets, some with glass doors, and a white cast-iron farm sink under a sunny window. A backsplash of white subway-style tiles and decorative hardware adds the finishing touch. The center island has a six-burner Dacor cooktop and Broan professional stainless steel vent hood.

The breakfast room is behind the kitchen, separated by a counter. A wall-size window looks onto the back yard.

Royal blue paint covers the family room walls. Measuring 19 by 22 feet, the family room also works well as a space for casual entertaining. It has a wood-burning fireplace with a granite surround, built-in cabinetry and French doors to the rear yard.

Back in the foyer hall, a wood staircase leads to the five bedrooms on the second level. The master bedroom has hardwood floors, recessed lighting and French doors that open onto a private balcony.

Double marble vanities and a large soaking tub with a mosaic tile surround highlight the master bathroom. There’s also a separate stand-up shower.

The second and third bedrooms share a connecting bath. While the second bedroom features a large closet, the third bedroom is being used as a library and has a wood-burning fireplace and extensive built-in cabinetry that matches the wood floors. The room opens into a private sunroom with built-in cabinetry.

The remaining two bedrooms share the third full bath on this level. This bathroom is completely tiled and has a Corian vanity.

Designer ceramic tile flooring can be found throughout the finished lower level. One big open room with built-in cabinetry is being used as a recreation area with a media room and home gym. There’s also a sixth bedroom in the basement with an adjoining bathroom and a separate powder room.

When remodeling, the owners made sure to make the back of the house just as eye-catching as the front. With a rear columned porch surrounded by landscaping, it’s hard to tell the difference between the front and rear entrances.

The yard features a large patio, built-in grill and storage house. There’s also a gated driveway that leads to the side entry where there is a third columned porch.
