SEEN AND HEARD AT NATIONALS PARK

Aaron Crow’s saga dominated the headlines Friday night, but let’s not ignore the story of Marcus Jones, the Nationals’ 11th-round pick signed just before the deadline.

The outfielder, who grew up in Northwest, played in high school at the Landon School in Bethesda and then spent three years at N.C. State, beamed Saturday as he watched batting practice from behind the cage after signing for $150,000 (23 times less than Crow turned down).

“Once I saw it was 11:55 and I wasn’t on the phone, my heart felt like it was about to come out of my chest,” Jones said of the last-minute negotiations. “But once 11:58 rolled around, I was calming down. I sat back and had a glass of water and relaxed at that point.”
