No. 20 George Washington 76, Charlotte 54
Kimberly Beck had 19 points and 11 assists and the Colonials (16-4, 4-1 A-10) snapped Charlotte’s seven-game winning streak with a victory over the 49ers (13-8, 4-1) yesterday at Smith Center.
The victory moved George Washington into a tie for first place with Charlotte.
Sarah-Jo Lawrence added 13 points and 10 rebounds as all five GW starters scored in double figures.
The victory was the 498th of GW coach Joe McKeown’s career.
Erin Floyd scored 14 points and Shannon McCallum added 10 for the 49ers, who committed 23 turnovers.
Beck directed a GW offense that had little trouble getting the ball inside for many high-percentage shots. The Colonials scored 40 of their 76 points in the paint.
GW shot 59 percent (20-for-34) in the first half and raced out to a 49-24 halftime advantage.
The 49ers scored the first basket of the game, but never led again. GW broke the game open with an 18-3 run for a 33-13 lead with just under eight minutes left.
No. 12 West Virginia 67, Georgetown 35
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — LaQuita Owens scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds to help the Mountaineers (16-3, 5-1 Big East) roll past the Hoyas (11-8, 1-5).
The Mountaineers won despite the absence of Meg Bulger, who tweaked her surgically repaired left knee during West Virginia’s win over Marshall on Wednesday.
West Virginia raced to a 40-20 lead in the first half on the strength of a 16-3 run midway through the period. West Virginia shot 60.7 percent in the half, while holding Georgetown to nine field goals and 32 percent from the floor.
Monica McNutt scored 13 to lead Georgetown.
American 62, Holy Cross 46
WORCESTER, Mass. — Three players scored in double figures to give the Eagles (8-12, 2-3 Patriot) their first road win over the Crusaders (10-10, 3-2) in 16 tries.
Michelle Kirk led American with 13 points, while Liz Hayes and Stephanie N’Garsanet each finished with 12 points each.
Briana McFadden had a game-high 15 points for the Crusaders.
Virginia 69, Florida State 66 (OT)
TALLAHASSEE, Fla — Paulisha Kellum”s 3-pointer with 2:17 left was the difference as the Cavaliers (15-5, 4-1 ACC) outlasted the Seminoles (14-7, 4-2)
Virginia center Aisha Mohammed grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds to go with 18 points for her eighth double-double of the season.
Florida State had four players in double figures, led by Jacinta Monroe, who had 15 points.
Winston-Salem State 63, Howard 61
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Rene Rector scored 24 points, including two key baskets down the stretch, and the Rams (1-12) overcame a three-point deficit in the final 32 seconds to defeat he Bison (2-13).
After Tamaya Daniels made two free throws, Howard held a 61-58 lead.
Nora Campbell hit a jumper with 21 seconds left to make it 61-60.
Howard’s Reyna Gross missed the front end of a one-and-one at the foul line with 17 seconds left, setting up Rector’s winning layup with three seconds to go.
Asha Santee led Howard with 14 points. Daniels and Shannon Carlisle had 13 points each.
