BALTIMORE | Tommy Phelan's late-blooming spring just keeps getting better.

The Navy goalie, who didn't slide into the starting lineup until late March, made 16 saves as the No. 12 Midshipmen upended Army 8-4 Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium.

Brendan Connors had three goals and two assists for Navy (9-3, 4-2 Patriot), which avenged last year's loss to the Black Knights (5-7, 1-4).

That was the Mids' first defeat in their long-running rivalry since 1997, and the frustration over the setback simmered for some time even though Navy went on to reach the NCAA tournament.

Phelan made only six saves in that game, but put together his third straight stellar game. Phelan has made at least 15 saves against Georgetown, Maryland and Army.
