RABAT, MOROCCO (AP) - Morocco’s official press agency says the U.S. special envoy to the Mideast has arrived in the north African country to launch his tour of Arab capitals and Israel.

The MAP agency says President Barack Obama’s Middle East envoy, George Mitchell, plans to meet late Monday with Morocco’s minister for Foreign Affairs before heading to Algeria, Tunisia and then the Mideast later this week, where he is due to meet leaders in Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Mitchell’s weeklong tour seeks to launch widespread consultations in the Arab world on ways to revive peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
