PRESCOTT VALLEY, ARIZ. (AP) - Police north of Phoenix shot and killed a bobcat after it attacked and injured a 13-year-old girl and her 43-year-old mother.

Prescott Valley police say the bobcat bit the girl on her leg on a local street Monday afternoon. The mother was injured while defending her daughter. Both were treated at a hospital.

Prescott Valley police say they later found the animal, which charged at the officers in an aggressive manner.

The officers shot and killed the bobcat.

Arizona Game and Fish agents have taken custody of the animal as part of their investigation.
