NAME _ Alan Bersin.

AGE _ 62. Born Oct. 15, 1946.

EDUCATION _ Graduated from Harvard University in 1968 and was a Rhodes Scholar. Received a law degree from Yale University in 1974.

CAREER _ Attorney in private practice in Los Angeles. U.S. attorney for the Southern District of California, 1993-98, doubling the last three years as Justice Department’s special representative for the southwest border. Superintendent of San Diego schools, 1998-2005. Was California’s education secretary, 2005-06. Currently chairman of San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.

FAMILY _ Married to San Diego Superior Court Judge Lisa Foster and father of three daughters, Alissa, Madeleine and Amalia Rose.
