DETROIT (AP) - A federal appeals court won’t stop a Detroit newspaper reporter from being questioned next week about unidentified sources who helped with a story in 2004.
The decision Thursday clears the way for David Ashenfelter’s deposition Tuesday at the federal courthouse in Detroit.
A former terrorism prosecutor, Richard Convertino, wants to know who in the government talked to the Detroit Free Press about an internal ethics investigation. Convertino says he needs the information for his lawsuit against the U.S. Justice Department.
Ashenfelter, a Pulitzer Prize winner, has asserted constitutional privileges in refusing to identify sources. His lawyer, Richard Zuckerman, says the reporter “absolutely” doesn’t want to name them.
