WASHINGTON (AP) — Former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry is scheduled to appear in federal court after failing to file his tax returns on time.
Barry is set to attend his probation revocation hearing Thursday in U.S. District Court.
Prosecutors asked a judge in February to send the city council member to jail after he failed to file his 2007 tax returns, violating his probation for previous offenses. Prosecutors say it was the eighth time in nine years that Barry didn’t file his taxes on time.
Barry has said he has been contributing monthly to his tax bill, and that he’s met the conditions of his probation related to his tax debt.
Barry, who received a kidney transplant in February, has said health problems were a distraction.
