LOUISVILLE, KY. (AP) - Country music star LeAnn Rimes will help start a new tradition at the Kentucky Derby this year. Churchill Downs says Rimes will be the first national recording artist to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the historic racetrack in Louisville, Ky., as part of the Derby Day ceremonies.

The 135th Run for the Roses will be held May 2.

Churchill Downs Senior Vice President Kevin Flanery says Rimes’ performance will “begin a 21st-century Derby tradition.”

The track says the Fort Knox Army Band will continue its tradition of performing an instrumental version of the national anthem.

The 26-year-old Rimes is a two-time Grammy winner.
