FAIRFAX (AP) — The family of an Army veteran is suing a Virginia funeral home because they claim the firm mishandled his body as it awaited burial at Arlington National Cemetery.
The lawsuits against National Funeral Home and its parent company, Service Corp. International of Houston, seek $60 million in damages.
The family of retired Army Col. Andrew DeGraff alleges the body was left in an unrefrigerated garage as it sat in storage more than two months between his October death and his burial at Arlington in January.
A spokeswoman for Service Corporation International says an investigation is under way.
The four lawsuits were filed Tuesday. Earlier this month, The Washington Post reported that as many as 200 bodies were stored in the garage.
