NEW YORK (AP) - A mob captain who helped run the crumbling Gambino crime family when John Gotti was sent to prison has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Nicholas Corozzo pleaded guilty last summer to racketeering crimes and two murders in 1996.
The 69-year-old was on the run for nearly four months after initially escaping arrest a dragnet that swept up 62 reputed mob associates early last year.
He ultimately surrendered after his case was featured on the TV show “America’s Most Wanted.”
Prosecutors say Corozzo was part of a panel that oversaw Gambino operations in the mid 1990s.
