ARLINGTON, TEXAS (AP) - The future is here for one of the Texas Rangers’ prized pitching prospects.
The Rangers announced Saturday they’ve purchases the contract of left-hander Derek Holland from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
To make room for Holland, the Rangers have designated right-hander Josh Rupe for assignment. Holland, 22, allowed four runs in four innings and took the loss in his Triple-A debut Monday at Nashville. He was the Rangers’ 2008 Nolan Ryan Minor league Pitcher of the Year after going 13-1 with a 2.27 earned-run average in 26 starts across three levels last season.
Rupe has given up eight earned runs in 4 2-3 innings in four relief appearances this season.
