COLUMBUS, OHIO (AP) - Detroit Tigers right-hander Joel Zumaya pitched two innings of scoreless relief Saturday for the Toledo Mud Hens as he recovers from a sore shoulder.

Zumaya allowed two hits, struck out one and threw 17 of 26 pitches for strikes in Toledo’s 3-1 victory over the Columbus Clippers.

The 24-year-old Zumaya, who pitched just once in spring training for Detroit, began his rehabilitation last week with two appearances for Class A Lakeland. He allowed five runs _ three earned _ on three hits in 2 1-3 innings, striking out four and walking five.

Zumaya’s best year came in 2006, when he was 6-3 with a 1.94 ERA in 62 appearances for the AL champion Tigers. He has missed most of the past two seasons with finger and shoulder injuries.
