Thousands of sailors aboard the carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt are back in Norfolk after a seven-month deployment.

Family and friends greeted the returning sailors Saturday at Naval Station Norfolk as the Nimitz-class carrier arrived home. Hours earlier, the guided missile cruiser Monterey and the guided missile destroyers Mason and Nitze sailed back to Virginia waters.

The ships are part of a carrier strike group that was deployed in support of maritime security operations in the Navy’s 5th, 6th and 7th fleet areas of operations.

Members of the Roosevelt’s air wing arrived home to Oceana Naval Air Station on Friday.
